Won't that just run as an initial logon for the user running the command? I 
thought -i meant "simiulate initial logon".

A "real" Unix system might well have a different shell for the root user than 
for the user running the command. Certainly the environment, especially the 
path, will be different.

Will this give you a different prompt when running as root? That's a nice 
reminder at every new line to be careful.

This is not the place to discuss the Ubuntu philosophy, which I happen to 
disagree with. In close to three decades of Unix use I have never caused 
myself a problem by running as root.

The Ubuntu way may be a good idea for new Unix users, but it's a PIA as far as 
I'm concerned. Using sudo all the time is an option, but it should be my 
choice, not the distro makers decision.
