Unless I'm missing something, it says 8 channel @ 300MB/s per channel 
- which is the spec for SATA running at 3Gb/s.

IIRC, a four lane PCIe bus will give you 10Gb/s, or about 1GB/s. By 
contrast, the older PCI slots give you something like 1/2 a GB/s for 
a 64bit/66MHz or 1GB/s for 64bit/133MHz.
