Tried updating to 190.18 as well as making the changes noted above. Still
no better for my personal issues - running trunk svn 20947, with a 8400 GT
PCI card, which seems like it might be the issue, although I never had these
issues THIS bad with earlier versions of the driver/myth combination.
Now I get the pre-emption about every 5-6 seconds:

2009-07-25 12:29:01.060 VDPAU Error: DISPLAY PRE-EMPTED. Aborting playback.
2009-07-25 12:29:01.061 VidOutVDPAU Error: IsErrored() is true in Show()
2009-07-25 12:29:01.061 NVP: Error condition detected in videoOutput after
Show(), aborting playback.
2009-07-25 12:29:01.061 VidOutVDPAU Error: IsErrored() in ProcessFrame()
2009-07-25 12:29:01.061 NVP(1), Error: AVSync: Unknown error in videoOutput,
aborting playback.
2009-07-25 12:29:01.061 NVP(1), Error: Failed to initialize A/V Sync
2009-07-25 12:29:01.061 VidOutVDPAU Error: IsErrored() in ProcessFrame()
2009-07-25 12:29:01.062 NVP(1), Error: AVSync: Unknown error in videoOutput,
aborting playback.
2009-07-25 12:29:01.062 NVP(1), Error: Failed to initialize A/V Sync
2009-07-25 12:29:01.062 VidOutVDPAU Error: IsErrored() in ProcessFrame()
2009-07-25 12:29:01.062 NVP(1), Error: AVSync: Unknown error in videoOutput,
aborting playback.
2009-07-25 12:29:01.062 NVP(1), Error: Failed to initialize A/V Sync
2009-07-25 12:29:01.062 VidOutVDPAU Error: IsErrored() in ProcessFrame()

And then it restarts over again...

Interestingly, I tried to switch back to XvMC, (since this box is also very
CPU light, it's a VIA EX10000 I'm trying to rescue from being a paperweight
with VDPAU and a PCI card...) and I got this:

2009-07-25 12:30:38.543 TV: StartPlayer(0, Watching WatchingPreRecorded,
main) -- begin
2009-07-25 12:30:39.498 VideoOutputXv Error: XvMC output requested, but is
not supported by display.
Xlib: extension "XVideo-MotionCompensation" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib: extension "XVideo-MotionCompensation" missing on display ":0.0".

Not sure what's happening there, but for the moment, I'm going back to
180.something...
