VP2/3 are not official names for anything, however the 'rare' cards you 
speak of offer a VC-1 entropy decoder to allow full bitstream offload of 
VC-1.  This was desirable early on with VDPAU, however several months 
ago, support was added for the less capable cards to do this decoding 
within the driver, allowing VC-1 decoding in all VDPAU-capable cards.

Currently, the recommendation for a discrete card is one capable of 
using all available deinterlace modes at full 1080i resolution.  That 
typically means a 9500GT or 8600GT.
