Using the vdpau test tool posted on the nvidia forums, this is what I got:

9500GT:
MIXER WEAVE (1920x1080): 567 frames/s
MIXER BOB (1920x1080): 1086 fields/s
MIXER TEMPORAL (1920x1080): 218 fields/s
MIXER TEMPORAL_SPATIAL (1920x1080): 74 fields/s

8600GT:
MIXER WEAVE (1920x1080): 474 frames/s
MIXER BOB (1920x1080): 834 fields/s
MIXER TEMPORAL (1920x1080): 175 fields/s
MIXER TEMPORAL_SPATIAL (1920x1080): 69 fields/s

So a 9500GT is a tad faster, but when it comes to the media you will
ever come across, either will do just as well: they are both fast
enough
