"Didn't the disabling of EDID in xorg.conf just give you the possibility to
use the analog sound input on your TV?"
Yes, that's correct the sound is analog not digital.
"When I referred to newest versions of alsa and Nvidia drivers I was
thinking about getting sound via HDMI working."
I might be interested in doing that if I can get some help with it. At this
point I'm just glad I'm able to get sound and video whatever it might be...
Following this link at Ubuntu (
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=843012) it appears that installing
1.0.19 might cause undue stress...
*"ALSA 1.0.19 *
If you want to upgrade ALSA to 1.0.19 to get support for your sound device,
a link is provided below. The script does not follow standard Ubuntu or
Debian packaging so you will be unable to revert to your old installation
and may have to run the script again after kernel updates to get your sound
back. Consider yourself warned."
