Just an update on what other things I tried.   Nothing seems to help.

1.  In another thread, it was suggested that I turn off the screen 
saver.   So  System-> Preferences-> Screensaver  and there I removed the 
check by "Activate Screensaver....".   I did this on BE and FE and then 
rebooted each.   I still occasionally  would get the delay.

2.  In another thread,  I read where cpu load would aggravate the 
problem.   So  I caused my BE to record two ATSC channels and one from 
my s-video satellite receiver.    No help here either.  Recording three 
channels at a time didn't see to help either.   Guess I really should 
have run "cpuburn" instead in the BE because I never saw top report over 
a 7 % load.    Maybe I'll try that next.

3.  Somewhere I read that if the Playback in Frontend Setup was changed 
to Slim, that would help.  Didn't help me. 

I think I'll hide the remote controls for a while then I won't hear  
noise from the WAF dept.
