Specifically, you can look at the "configure" file to try and determine
which libraries are missing.  The section "Manually Resolving Dependencies"
on this page
http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Ubuntu_Feisty_-_Package_Dependencies#Manually_Resolving_Dependencies
describes
the process.  It's specific to Ubuntu, but may give you some idea of how to
tackle the problem.
