At work we get laptops and break them down and sell the parts. I got an ibm
r51 board and processor and added the ram. It has an ati radeon 7500 built
in which works pretty well. I hooked it up to an acer 22" lcd and stuck the
laptop in a closet and rewired so no wires show. Looks really nice. Custom
framing around it and all.

Other than that I've converted laptops into picture frames and used dsl
linux since it's really small. You can get any old laptop (pentium 1 even)
and use it. In fact I have a few extra P1 laptops I'd be willing to give to
anyone who wants them. Email me off list if anyone wants them. Just pay for
shipping fees. The work great. I bought them a while back and could not get
pcmcia working on them (was gonna add wireless to them) and they don't have
usb, so you'd have to use a cd to get pics on it.
