I have a 8400GS and it outputs on both the VGA and DVI ports by default. 
To get it to output on the RGB component port required a line in 
xorg.conf. I am not at my machine right now to look at the name but the 
value was "Component". A quick look thru the man pages will show you the 
correct option name and its other values.
