Damn. I still don't really have a clue. Batteries in the remote aren't
starting to go or anything are they? A weak signal can occasionally cause an
incorrect signal interpretation on the receiver side...

Looks like that may have been the issue.  I had already checked the remote
to see if the low battery indicator was on, but it wasn't.  I went ahead and
replaced the batteries anyway, and so far, the spurious commands have mostly
stopped.
