What is your asound.conf file?  It should be something simple like this:

  pcm.!default {
       type hw
       card 0
       device 1

}


If it has a bunch of channel decoding then that is the problem because
obviously you are missing the center channel.  From all you say, it
sounds like you have the myth box set up to decide the digital and
re-encode it.  That isn't what you want to do, you want to pass it
through unchanged.
