They are generally referring to 1080i material when they say you need
8600/9600 or better. For SD (which the OP asked about) the 9400M used
in the ION will be able to do Advanced 2x. In my experience almost all
of the VDPAU deinterlacers are better than the software ones. So yes I
think you would find Advanced 1x or Temporal 2x preferable to Yadif.
The VDPAU deinterlacers are really good. I am a fan of VDPAU more for
the deinterlacers than for the CPU power saved.
