Seems as if that "--update" option is the key to solve the issues that
kept me searching for about one week now. I wonder why I never tried it
or asked for it earlier.

Edited 2 xmltvids into the db, ran
"mythfilldatabase --update --file 1 myepgdata.xml"
and get proper data shown  ... and recording works now as well.

Right now it does what it should do ...

I still can't believe though ;-)

time to clear some other issues and test live-tv etc.
