The Core2 processors are good processors and lots of people on the
list use them. When you look at just the processors the Intel CPUs
will usually win in price/power/perfomance over AMD. But when you
consider the AMD motherboards you can often get them for cheaper than
an equivalent Intel board. So overall an AMD system will end up being
more bang for you buck. Also almost any dual core processer currently
out will do just fine for most mythtv systems. Unless you are doing
heavy transcoding or wanting real-time commercial flagging of multiple
HD streams (ie watching multiple shows while they are still
recording), then almost any current Core2 or Athlon X2 will be fine.
Most builders these days seem to be primarly looking for low power CPU
and a good VDPAU Nvidia card.
