Standard chicken and egg.

While Sky continue to dominate the satellite platform (and lock-in
channels through payments) there will be less channels on Freesat and
therefore less people will buy Freesat.  However as the Digital
rollout of Freeview continues the intent is to transmit 4 HD channels
using DVB-T2 (see wikipedia) at this time the 'likely' HD Channels are
BBC HD, ITV HD, Channel 4 HD or then either Film 4 HD or Channel 5 HD.

Once these channels are transmitting it's possible more people will
say "I'm not paying £50 per month for repeats, Freeview/Freesat is
enough for me" and then perhaps we'll get more HD channels on Freesat.
 Whether this is likely or not you'll have to decide for yourself.

Of course you don't have to have Freeview OR Freesat, you can combine
them into one mythtv system, have a read of this thread for example.
