The confusing thing about the 8400 GS is that not all of them are created equal.

The Wikipedia VDPAU page is pretty good:

It lists the 8400GS name being used to market boards with the G84,
G86, and G98 graphics cores and it depends on which core you have to
determine what features the board actually supports.
