Hah! That'd be the simple solution.

Actually, since (as mentioned) I already had Windows 7 RC, I decided
to just install it under Boot Camp on a Mac (as opposed to trying to
use VirtualBox) and updated the firmware. Windows 7 RC doesn't
immediately require a product key upon installation, and for the time
being is quite usable for the sort of limited purpose like installing
the firmware. 100% legal and 100% free of cost.
