Are you sure you are using 0.23 or trunk???

using something like ALSA:iec958:{AES0:0x02} or
ALSA:iec958:{AES0:0x06} would allow to set the non-audio flag for the
IEC status. This would have been required earlier ; this was a way to
tell ALSA that the spdif port had to be set for non-audio packet

0.23 does this automatically.. so that requirements to have AES0:blah
shouldn't be necessary anymore
