[mythtv-users] Need a second opinion regarding choppy video playback suspicions

I have a newly built (second) remote frontend which has choppy video
playback. It is outputting SD to a standard NTSC-M TV display via
S-video, using an add-on NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS PCI video card.
(FWIW, CPU is Athlon II x2 245 2900MHz.)

Thought I'd found the solution to be adding "UseEvents" set to
true/yes/on/1 in the Device or Screen section of xorg.conf, but found
that was already there.

Reading in the MythTV wiki at
http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/NVidiaProprietaryDriver#Choppy_video.2FHigh_CPU_Usage,
I see that newer NVIDIA devices (8200 mentioned) have this problem
even with UseEvents declared.

I have not run nvidia-settings on this FE yet, so it is possible that
the other change recommended, setting Sync to VBlank in
nvidia-settings might help.

My suspicion, based on the cited web page is that this won't do me any
good. Can anyone confirm/deny or provide other suggestions? My next
"fix" will be to see if I have a suitable older NVIDIA card I can
slide into this system to see if that will resolve the problem,
however, since it is a low-profile case, that may prove to be a
challenge ;-).

TIA,

Craig.
