     Then it's probably fortunate that there are portable hard drives now.
You can even shove a decent amount of stuff on that size drive. It won't
cover an entire mega-collection but that will come in time.

     Eventually, you will be able to back up your video collection on the
slack space in your phone or other PC that happens to be sitting on the 
home network like you can do with your other media files now.

     Anything that is not DVD ripped content gets copied to every one of
my Myth boxes since stock hard drives have gotten so (relatively) large 
these days. I end up with all of this free space otherwise sitting there
doing nothing.
