Open two terminal windows.

In one run

$ tzap -c /home/rodd/.mplayer/channels.conf -r '<channel>'

This assumes that there is a channels.conf file in this path.[1]  You
also need to change <channel> to one of the channels in the
channels.conf file.

In the other terminal run

$ mplayer /dev/dvb/adapter0/dvr0

Again you may need to alter the path.

This should get 'tv' in mplayer.

[1]  If you don't have one then you'll need to generate one with

$ scandvb /usr/share/dvb-apps/dvb-t/au-Melbourne -o zap | tee channels.conf

and then copy channels.conf to where you want it.  Again you'll need to
use the appropriate file in /usr/share/...
