One way to do this is to create an XML file that mytharchivehelper can process. You can generate an example from an existing mythtv recording using mytharchive to export a recording:
Optical Disks -> Archive Files -> Create Archive
Then to commflag, execute the mythcommflag command.

What I'm not sure of is whether mytharchivehelper inserts a record into the oldrecorded table.
