I've successfully used usbip to export a backend DVD drive, make this 
available on a frontend, and to play a DVD with full menus, decss, etc. 
Yay!

However, only one frontend can connect at once. What's the best way to 
issue the usbip command I need to connect/disconnect the drive as we go 
in/out of the DVD player?
