This (in the UK) seems to depend on channel and programme.

I often turn on subtitles (unless it get in the way of the picture or it 
lags).

On foreign language firms, I have not noticed (generally) an issue here.
Watched Apocalypto and that worked as expected but the odd film/programme did 
not and I'm guessing it has something to do with the transmission procedures 
in place by the station or transmitter.

The fact that it works on some seems to me, to not indicate a problem with 
mythtv but short of complaining to the channel's tech support I can't see how 
to resolve.
