[mythtv-users] Mac Mini OS X (10.6) Fast Playback

Hi all.  Haven't posted on the list in a while, all has been quite good with
my Myth setup here at home -- for the most part.

A couple of months ago we added a Mac Mini running Snow Leopard to our
setup, as our main living room media PC.  We previously had built a
front-end for out there running Linux, but the mobo we used, and how we
needed to have it setup... just never agreed.  We could never end up getting
digital audio working under Linux, but it was no problem under Windows.
ANYWAY, long story short, roommate got frustrated with it one day and went
out and bought the Mac Mini.  Frankly, its been about 97.5% perfect, right
out of the box!  Digital audio, 1080p playback, no tearing, full screen
hulu, everything that we "fought" with under Linux and Windows "just
worked".

Again, anyway... The problem:  Occasionally we get "fast" playback with
Mythfrontend on OS X.  When we first set it up, we were running 0.21-fixes,
and this past week I upgraded my backend to 0.22-fixes.  The Mac Mini
frontend is now also running the updated frontend binaries from Sniderpad,
and we're still experiencing the same issue.  The problem being that it is
very inconsistent, which is making it hard to track down what the problem
is.  We can run a "test" 5 times in a row, and get what seems to be
completely random results:  start Mythfrontend, start playback of a video
(same video each time), and it MAY or MAY NOT have the fast playback
problem.  Quit mythfrontend, try again.  Totally random.

Here is our setup:  Late 2009 Mac Mini (with 2gb RAM, 9400M graphics)
running OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard).  Video is connected to the TV via HDMI
(Mini displayport --> HDMI converter) and the audio is connected via optical
SPDIF.  All connected to a 1080p 46" Sony Bravia something-or-other LCD TV
;)

Settings:  We've tried just about every combination of playback settings we
can think of, and we can't get the issue to go away completely.  Quartz,
standard, Deinterlacers, no Deinterlacers, etc.

Would seriously appreciate any suggestions anyone might have.  Not the
hugest of problems, but would make our Myth setup virtually perfect once we
can get this one squared away.
