...it seems like some sort of keepalive script might be in order. It
would be best if it was run by myth itself but this is also something
that could be run from cron. Dunno if you could do this without causing
something to display in a recording.

   OTOH, if it is just a "wee hours" thing then perhaps you could have
a cron job running in the "wee hours" that sends something to the STB.
