Ugh. If it ain't one thing, its another. So lirc_i2c registered fine,
but lirc_serial went boom. :) I've actually fixed the lirc_serial
issue too, but the repaired kernel hasn't been pushed to updates yet.
The 2.6.32.3 kernels awaiting push to updates should finally let both
work.
