[mythtv-users] Weird slave backend issues

Hi everyone,

In the process of troubleshooting a malfunctioning tuner card, I
decided it might be easiest to set up my laptop as a slave backend.

This seemed simple enough - add mythtv-backend, reconfigure to point
to database on the master, setup the master IP address.

That done, restarted mythbackend on each machine. New encoders appear,
so it obviously knows the new slave backend exists, but it can't use
them - MythWeb reports that they're "Currently Not Connected".

Second problem: Huge performance issues. Opening the Watch Recordings
screen takes >30 seconds before any recordings appear (from a frontend
on the master), and mythfrontend frequently becomes unresponsive for
minutes at a time. Shutting down the slave backend resolves these
issues.

Anyone got a clue where to start on this one?

- Chris
