I couldn't disagree more. MythTV has, in the past, had a reputation
for being a bit spartan in terms of UI. IMHO, Terra is currently the
only theme that looks and feels "modern" instead of primarily
utilitarian. I'm also an XBMC user and the most popular themes for
that platform use the horizontal menu and are better for it. I think
Terra is a perfect default theme because it is simple, attractive, and
intuitive.
