Definitely do this first!

My Panasonic (TX-P42S10) has a mode to disable overscanning completely on hdmi - yours
may well do too. What model do you have?

Also, check that you use 16:9 mode rather than Auto, as Auto is not too clever
sometimes! MythTV looks ok, but part of the screen disappears during bootup phase.
