Or use mplayer and set it up as an overlay with no border and resized.

I do that for a number of cameras, if the motion detector activates
the camera shot appears as a PIP with reduced size on my viewing
screen, if it's of interest I then switch to zoneminder mode or a
laptop to have a better look.
