I have an Xbox-360 that plays MPEG2 from an XP virtual machine running the "PlayON" server, which appears as a standard
UPnP server under Video Library. The virtual machine is running under VirtualBox, and it's running on a fairly beefy
server (4 Opteron cores and 16GB of RAM).

This is a non-Myth system that I don't really pay much attention to, but it does work.

Since the XBox can play DVDs, I'd think it's fairly obvious that it has the capability to play MPEG2, though I wouldn't
put it past MS to cripple it in some ways.
