[mythtv-users] ION resolution switching

Hi,

I'm setting up an Ion front end with 0.23 from MythDora. It is
connected to an older 1080p LCD panel. I'm trying to
get Myth to change the resolution to 720p (or 480p) to use the TV's
scaler rather than computers' scaler. I've ticked "Separate video
modes for GUI and TV Playback" and setup overrides for 1080 and 720.
The only time I'm able to see it changing resolutions is when I
set the refresh rate in the overrides to "any" and play an
imported 720p/24 video. In this case, it sets the mode to 1080p/24.
It is like it does not see modes other than 1080p.

I'm running: MythTV Version : 0.23-1.md12 (r24509)
kmod-nvidia-2.6.32.12-115.fc12.i686-195.36.24-1.fc12.2.i686

I've disabled dynamic twin view in xorg.conf, and told the
nvidia drivers to use the TV's scaler:

          Option "DynamicTwinView" "False"
         Option "FlatPanelProperties" "Scaling = Native"

I just use the EDID provided by the TV, and I do not have any
custom modelines.

When I manually switch resolutions via xrandr, I see my TV switching
between 1080p and 720p. Obviously, xrandr shows the modes:

[mythtv at ion ~]$ xrandr -q | egrep 1920x\|1280x720
default connected 1920x1080+0+0 0mm x 0mm
    1920x1080 60.0* 24.0
    1280x720 60.0

Here is some -v playback output from playing a 720p/24 video:

2010-06-07 09:16:44.617 *** Trying to match best refresh rate 23.976Hz
2010-06-07 09:16:44.617 Trying 1920x1080 24 Hz
2010-06-07 09:16:45.063 SwitchToVideo: Video size 1280 x 720:
     Switched to displaying resolution 1920 x 1080, 1625mm x 914mm

And a 720p60 recording:
2010-06-07 09:17:04.639 *** Trying to match best refresh rate 59.9401Hz
2010-06-07 09:17:04.639 Trying 1920x1080 60 Hz
2010-06-07 09:17:05.053 SwitchToVideo: Video size 1280 x 720:
     Switched to displaying resolution 1920 x 1080, 1625mm x 914mm

Am I making some stupid mistake somewhere?

I'm coming to the conclusion that somehow MythTV doesn't think the panel
can do 720p (or 480p). What lines do I look for in verbose output
logs to tell what resolutions Mythfrontend sees?

Thanks,

Drew
