If you are using a receiver like this one:

pretty sure it should show up as an "active low" receiver (at least
all
4 of mine do).  I don't think I had to do too much to get the blaster
working, just a "dpkg-reconfigure lirc" and select homebrew receiver and
custom transmitter.
