To discuss your issue, not his, is the issue the distance involved?
His question sounded 100% typical myth usage (remote frontend and a
slave backend) and was about bad streaming performance of recorded tv.
Were it 15 feet to a roommate would the question have been acceptible?
What about the guy in a dorm next door?

People throw around "illegal" a little too much unless I missed
something big about his question.
