Are you regularly checking and optimising your database? This
behaviour could point to delays in getting the seektables from the
database which would be much faster when cached. The
optimize_mythdb.pl script will keep your database in good shape for
you - I'd recommend running it daily.
Check your backend logfile for errors/warnings. Your frontend
logfile(s) might also contain additional info which could point to the
delays.
