I have now, and so far, it appears to be working as it should.  As an aside,
not all keypresses show up in xev with the default configuration, but if you
remap them to a regular keyboard key, they'll show up.  I can also leave the
system alone for a day, come back to it, and have the remote fire back up after
a brief delay.

The only remaining nitpick with the new box is that ALSA isn't saving all of
the mixer settings on shutdown or reboot, but that's another matter for another
time.
