It's things like "close to having a working Linux driver" that puts
people off !

What's the "plug and play" situation with S2 cards ? Eg, how many of
them would work on a plain install from (eg) MythBuntu ?

I'd be tempted to stick with an older card for the moment, and add an
S2 card later - I can't see too many muxes going S2 too soon. Though
I guess that depends on one's skills in putting together a recent
enough set of bits for full support.

Support for Hauppauge HVR-4000 and NOVA-HD-S2 was included in kernel 2.6.28.

There is or has been problems with the DVB-T part of HVR-4000 on kernel 2.6.31 but the DVB-S2 part was almost "plug and play" on OpenSUSE 11.2 with kernel 2.6.31. The only extra step I had to do was to download and install firmware for the card, and that is very easy.
