[mythtv-users] Cannot Import DVD

at least the UK is seams more sensible.

Politicians are on records saying that they rip their music
collection; and that is covered by the same "All rights reserved"
legal protection as DVD's.

CSS is not a "effective" protection scheme as it has been completely
broken wide-open.

I am no lawyer; and DMCA is not even in my jurisdiction but I seem to
recall it mentions it being illegal to attempt to break "effective"
copy-protection; but once it is broken properly and the hack published
it is no longer effective... so does that mean that CSS is no longer
covered? Would that mean that hacking blu-ray is only illegal up until
you publish the hack (at which point it is no longer effective)? If
so, what a bizarre world we live in...

I have only had issues ripping what they would call high-value modern
discs. Casino Royale (along with StarTrek, DarkKnight National
Treasure2 ) are problematic but strangely Quantum of Solace was no
problem.

In the UK they have or are talking about a fair-use law on media; so
that you do have the right to rip for personal use - but it would only
cover media bought after a certain date.
