The prime source for this is the NVidia 'Readme' which gets installed in 
/usr/share/docs/NVIDIA....something. It's a big document you can read 
with vim, or there is an html set of docs in a subfolder, which is 
easier to navigate. The info is buried in Appendix B = X Config Options.
