This works for me with a DCH3200:
01:07.0 FireWire (IEEE 1394): VIA Technologies, Inc. VT6306 Fire II IEEE 1394 OHCI Link Layer Controller (rev 80)
Strange though, it does not work with a 6 x 6 cable but does work with a 6 ( STB side ) x  4 ( comp side ) cable.
The 6 x 6 cable checks out on a static test ( ESR meter + Tektronix scope ).
I use the port that is closest to the power cord.
IMHO, FW on the DCH3200 and DCH3416 can be a really strange beast.
When it works, it's a dream. When it doesn't it's a nightmare.
For example, a short time ago, I was trying to do a mythtv setup and could
not get anywhere.
Tried it the next day, everything the same and had it all set up in less than five minutes.
