Stephen,
     Please try using the Youtube search for say "music" and then see if 
one of the search results play. This will help separate a Flashplugin 
issue from some other issue.

     On a "working" flashplugin set up you will see: After selecting a 
BBC iPlayer video from Netvision the MythBrowser loads flash and you 
will eventually see the player controls and a show specific "fan art" 
image background with the play "arrow" overlayed. Of course the play 
control or play "arrow" has to be clicked to get the video to play. If 
you are not located in GB the resulting screen will show an overlay of 
"Not available in your area".

Please do a Youtube, Vimeo, bliptv or dailymotion search and play test 
and post the results. Any of the grabbers I just listed can confirm that 
your install has a working FlashPlugin.
