[mythtv-users] Subtitles, HD and NVPAU possible?

Requirement: front end that will display HD (1080p) and subtitles without
problems. Ideally with a conservative power consumption, but picture
quality and audio/visual sync are more important.
As part of a recent thread ("Slight stutter on playback, 0.23 on ION
330HT"), I have found that NVPAU and subtitles causes some stuttering and
a loss of visual/audio synchronisation on the ION330. The wiki page
(http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/VDPAU#What_doesn.27t.3F) states, "Video may
stutter when the OSD or closed captioning is used."
As my wife is deaf, I need to find a front-end that will display HD with
subtitles without problems; as I'm not deaf, audio/visual synchronisation
is also necessary.
Given the comment on the wiki, I'm not sure whether I do this with NVPAU at
all. A few questions:
- should I abandon NVPAU altogether?
- is anyone running a front end that meets the requirements?
Grateful for any hardware (or other) suggestions.
Thanks,
Keith
