If its like the first generation appletv, its for loading a new image
onto the thing when its running the appletv os, but can be used for
whatever you like if you're running linux on it. I have yet to try
plugging anything into mine, or investigate the possibility for putting
linux on it.
(I have both the first-gen and second-gen appletv at home).
