what doesn't work is AC3/DTS passthrough using MythTV. BUT
multichannel LPCM does work, and if I disable AC3/DTS (ie uncheck the
boxes) Myth will decode AC3/DTS and output using multichannel LPCM
over HDMI. So I can at this point watch anything and get the
appropriate audio output, which means the housemates can watch TV.

I still don't understand why with mplayer it all works on any of the
card's devices without a hiccup yet in Myth I have to use a specific
device and I don't get AC3/DTS pass through on any of them.

I run the mythbuntu autobuilds, I'll update and see if it has helped at all.
