Do you have your antenna:
-mounted outdoors
==> Yes
-as high as possible
==> Yes
-properly aimed for the transmitters you want to receive from?
==> Yes

Do you have good quality RG-6 cabling between your antenna and tuner,
==> Yes
as short as possible,
==> Yes
with as few splits and connections as necessary?
==> Yes, Channel Master 4228 (coax) to HDHomeRun (ethernet) to Myth

What does antennaweb.org recommend for your location?
==> I get all the "yellow" channels.
==> There are blackouts on some of them, infrequently.
==> The CM 4228 was securely installed and positioned as per the
recommendations.

If you are determined to go ahead with an amp, a pre-amp
(attached directly at the antenna) is generally far
superior to a distribution amp (attached somewhere
further into your house). Channel Master makes a
couple of preamps (7777 and 7778) that are very
highly regarded. The key is noise: you want to
add the minimum of noise so that it doesn't mask
the signal that your tuner wants to decode.
I'm not familiar with Motorola gear.

==> Besides the cable length, splits, etc.
==> How do you keep the noise to a minimum?

Craig
==> Thanks for all the info.
