[mythtv-users] Using Backspace instead of Escape for "back"

That's because there's a Global keybinding for BACKSPACE that uses the 
Backspace key, by default.  You've now made a conflict by using 
Backspace for both BACKSPACE and ESCAPE.  Pick a new key for Backspace, 
and use it.
