Ok, you didn't vouch but you said it works and it's cheap and that's all I was looking for.
Just as was about to hit BUY on eBay, it dawned on me that I have a real full bore scan converter sitting in one of my racks.
I had mentioned in another thread and promptly forgot about. 

It's an Extron VSC200, I had used it in a conference room install that later got dismantled and has been sitting in one of my racks since. It's perfect, I get composite, s-video and component with it. 

Thanks for mentioning the converter Greg, you solved my problem :).
Now I can move on to finding a solution on the nvidia drivers again.
