I wasn't thinking clearly yesterday when I read 'cable'. 
It makes total sense that both the audio and video are encapsulated into the media file of course. 

Still, I do see an A/V connector on this card which leads me to believe that it does offer some additional inputs/outputs but haven't found much info on that in the bit of searching I've done.

The reading I have done on the audio problem is a little confusing in that people have what appear to be different problems.
I've tried a few things I've read but no success so far.
